Special guest: boxing world champion Dilar Kisikyol reveals tips and tricks

Empowerment through Boxing

Supporting girls and young women in their sporting and personal development while having a lot of fun at the same time - that's what GIRLS for BOXING, an initiative of the ‘Sports for more’ association, is all about. The project was awarded the ‘Star of Sport’ and the association was also honoured with the Capital City Prize for Integration and Tolerance in 2024.

The participants, aged between 8 and 21, are given a safe space to train together, get fit and socialise. Many of the athletes live in difficult socio-economic circumstances, and the majority have a history of migration or direct experience of flight.

The aim of the three-part event series is to empower young girls and women from disadvantaged backgrounds through sport and to offer them a platform where they can develop their skills and self-confidence.

The power of sport for good

SPORTFIVE has set itself the task of initiating positive, tangible changes in our society through the power of sport. As part of our holistic commitment to our SPORTGIVE initiative, SPORTFIVE supports selected sports projects or implements physical activity campaigns itself.

SPORTFIVE contributes its expertise and resources as a leading partner for the combination of sport, brands and social commitment, thus enabling the realisation of these important projects.

Although boxing is a central element of Sports for More's work, SPORTGIVE's support enables a cross-sport approach. SPORTGIVE encourages collaboration with various sporting stakeholders to offer participants a wide range of sports and opportunities.

The programme

The first event in the series began with an inspiring talk by world boxing champion Dilar Kisikyol, who shared her life journey and the positive impact sport has had on her life.

This was followed by a joint workout: while the beginners learnt the basics of boxing, the advanced boxers deepened their skills with combination techniques.

A special highlight was the visit from Hertha BSC players Anouk Westphal and Serwaah-Bonsu Danso, who dropped by as part of the club's campaign day against domestic violence and at the same time showed the participants the opportunities for women in sport.

With around 30 participants, the event was a complete success. It showed impressively how important sport is for many girls - whether as a community, as a ‘family’ or as a means of overcoming family obstacles. The event therefore not only offered sporting activity, but also a space for empowerment and mutual support.
